Last Sunday LMT’s mom called to ask if I wanted to join them in church [thirty minutes before service] to which I graciously declined. There has to be a reason I thought, however to ask “Why?” would have set up an hour long conversation. “Just show me the baby!” Moving skillfully through the battlefield of her mind I deflected, instead of “Why?” I stated …
“Do you know what it means when a man goes to church with a woman?” [I’ve heard that before, I don’t know what it means but it worked.]
“Man, your son wants to join the church and I wanted to make sure you are there.”
“So you call thirty minutes prior?” [I didn’t say it but I thought it]
“Well we can do it next weekend."
“I love you & I want to make passionate love to you.” [She didn’t say it but I’m sure she thought it]
I was excited; even though he is eight he understands the anchor in all of our lives, knowing God. My mother, her mother, the mission statement for the Y where he plays basketball, the oath for The Boys Scouts of America … there is a foundation constantly being poured into him, ready to build HIM up. Knowing my son I also couldn’t help but think there was something driving this decision. He is a Libra born during the week of the perfectionist. It is evident in how he approaches life, he is exacting, cool, charming with an abundant amount of love for his family; immediate and extended so I’m never amazed at anything he says or does.
I’m proud of him and I couldn’t wait to tell my mother. I hold off because I also know his mother and although she is a classically trained lyric soprano, she should have studied drama. Everything is a BIG production with her so there has to be a side story. The perfect opportunity for a follow up question arises when she calls for some sweet late night chit chat. I recently bought a new to me car so when she asks if she could ride it, naturally I assume she is referring to the car -_- Eventually, we go for a spin and I ask how did LMT let her know he wanted to join the church to which she stated …
“Mama, I’m ready to drink the grape juice now.”
I promise you that I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.
In gratitude to the Lord.
