Major Key

A few weeks ago Mrs. TramueL closed on a commercial real estate loan.

♫ My wife's Michelle, I brag different.

'Til You Own Your Own You Can't Be Free

Less a two year layoff, I've been with my employer for 14 years (continuos service) and although I enjoy what I'm currently doing there is a loss of freedom; policy manuals filled with nonsensical rules and regulations. How to dress, talk and move. It seems silly but truly the only policy anyone needs is "Be smart. Be nice. Do what you love. Have fun."

Work For It

Having never worked for anyone, Mrs. TramueL has realized that you can earn income by providing value, not time. Find a way to provide your best value to others, and charge a fair price for it.

For Free

After my layoff, I took a substantial pay cut when I returned. Any attempt to increase my income honestly felt like begging, especially in our current 'pay for performance' culture which translates to pay for who you like.

"Hey babe', must be nice to decide how much you get paid without needing anyone's permission but your own right?"

She said yes.

Holy Key

Let Your Life Speak is an old saying and the title of one of my favorite books on vocation. The word vocation comes from the Latin word for summons or call and is rooted in the word for voice. Unfortunately we have secularized the word and now it is another word we use for job or work.

The most compelling lives I've witnessed are those who are content and happy. My barber who simply loves cutting hair; a friend who is a champion for the homeless.

I Am extremely proud of Michelle, as I understand the struggle it took for her to get to this place/ and this place after multiple setbacks.

Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent.
— Parker J. Palmer, Let Your Life Speak: Listening For the Voice of Vocation

Listen to the voice that calls you.
