Let Me Know You Got Home Safe
/It’s just something we say, right?
We say it after dinners with friends, after long phone calls that stretch into the night, after first dates that leave us somewhere between hopeful and hesitant.
“Let me know you got home safe”
We send it in texts, we say it in passing, we tuck it in after goodbyes.
But if you listen closely, it’s never just about the drive. It’s about care disguised as casual.
It means: I want you to stay in this world a little longer.
It means: I was glad to be with you, and I’ll be thinking of you when we part.
It means: In a world that doesn’t always slow down to notice—I see you.
I’ve found myself saying it more these days. To friends I’ve had forever and new connections that feel like they’re just beginning. I say it to my kids, even though they’re grown now. I say it to someone I’m dating, even if I’m not sure yet where things are going. There’s something grounding in it… offering someone a soft place to land on the other side of a journey, even a short one.
Maybe it’s because I’m learning the value of presence and of not letting care go unspoken. Of knowing that small phrases can carry big love, quiet loyalty, or even a little peace.
It’s a habit I’ve chosen to keep.
A gentle way of saying: You matter. Your safety matters. I’m still with you, even after the goodbye.
So yes, let me know you got home safe.
Because when you do, I’ll feel a little safer in the world too.
