Random Observation #30,556,697,899

One of the things I appreciate about working at the Y is connecting with people. Now, the two of you reading my blog know me, and you’re probably side-eyeing that statement because you know I do not like people. But every now and then, I come across some genuinely cool folks.

Today, I found myself thinking about how we express (or suppress) our true emotions. Take the standard “How are you?” most people default to “I’m well” or some version of “I’m fine.” But how often is that actually true? And, more importantly, does the person asking even care? It’s mostly just a social script. But what happens when someone breaks the script and says, “I’m NOT doing well”?

We should be able to express how we really feel and not necessarily to get a response, but simply to release it, so we’re not bottling up emotions and making them even heavier,
