Love Impressions

I like things in their place, I'm not a neat freak per se but I do like things neat, organized, and in good order – Fastidious.

The word fastidious traces to the Latin noun fastidium, meaning "aversion" or "disgust." Fastidium itself is probably a combination of the Latin words fastus, meaning "arrogance," and taedium, meaning "irksomeness" or "disgust." Shout out to my HS Latin teacher Shirley Wingo.

A point of contention in sharing space with others is that they are not – Fastidious.

Lol, I’m just serious.

In the past

I’ve held a self-centered view when I became irritated with others not cleaning up behind themselves. I understand this as something I own and not a character flaw in others. I acknowledge it by not believing myself to be a mighty King and that others are here to serve me.

In the present

I pick up/ clean behind others as an act of service.

Still, I have been unable to escape the label of a stereotypical Virgo; nitpicky and critical. There are times when I catch myself thinking “Why won’t they remove that dead leaf from that plant?” I know this is self-centered, and so I allow the thought to pass on by with its rude self. There are times when I am not aware of the self-centeredness, and something vexes me…

In the future

With family, friends, or a new love, I will consider their idiosyncrasies as a love impression. If dishes are in the sink, I will wash the dishes gratefully and if it is a new love, on sight…

…hug her and appreciate the fact that she is there with me. Her being there with me > things neat, organized, and in good order, with no dishes in the sink.

The dishes are a reminder of the beautiful people in my life. Love impressions - unintended, unexpected, and unendurably full of love.
