July 2nd - July 8th, The Week of Rest and Introspection
I took the week off from work without plans and tried to force myself to get up, get out and get something when all I needed was rest and introspection.
Rest
... to turn my brain off.
In unhealthy cultures, people see rest as taking your foot off the gas pedal. You don't stop until you've pushed yourself to the brink of exhaustion. In healthy cultures, people see rest as a vital source of fuel. You take regular breaks to maintain energy and avoid burnout.
Introspection
... to plan.
I've always contended that I need space and seclusion to pull up my strength.
I went home (Roanoke) for a few days, and while there I was introspective and shit. I made two observations about nothing and yet everything.
Health is the Vital Principle of Bliss, and Exercise, of Health
Acknowledging deaths, celebrating birthdays, and visiting with a friend I haven't seen in years remind me of the brevity of life.
We Are Not Designed to be Alone
Listening to friends, society's edicts, and my own experience. I believe the discourse between men and women finding love is a conspiracy. The money is in the problem, not the solution.
Over lunch with CC, affectionately known as “Fly Girl,” we acknowledged our real-life examples of love and marriage 'tight in our face. What I observe from these thriving examples is their formula for success, it equates to; giving your time, maintaining physical intimacy, emotional intimacy, effective communication, and doing the little things.
Doing these will make your life more blissful. Good health is vital for consistency and to sustain happiness for a long time (pause); physical, emotional, and mental calisthenics. Prolonging your health requires exercise.
See what I did there? Health, bliss, exercise, health.
